The League Management Company has fined Ifeanyi Ubah FC over N2 million and suspended nine of their players for 12 games for attacking match officials during a league match.
During August’s game three players attacked referee Nakura Auwal after winger King Osanga was sent off.
Six more players joined in the ensuing melee, while officials Chidi Nwogu and Adrika Obiefuna also assaulted the referees. Both officials who joined in assaulting the referees were handed 19 game suspensions each.
A statement by LMC on their twitter handle reads: “FC IfeanyiUbah have been charged for breaching #NPFL Framework and Rules during their Matchday 36 game vs Niger Tornadoes.
“FC IfeanyiUbah failed to control and ensure proper conduct of their players and officials during the NPFL game vs Niger Tornadoes.
“Some FC IfeanyiUbah players, officials and supporters assaulted match officials on NPFL matchday 36 in Lokoja.
“Also, some FC IfeanyiUbah players and officials conducted themselves in a manner capable of bringing the NPFL to disrepute.”
Ifeanyi Ubah FC became an official partner of West ham last year.
The club was also ordered to pay $700 to each of the officials involved and any certified medical bills.
The move by the LMC is the latest attempt to try and crack down on referee’s assault and crowd trouble in the country’s premier division.
