Doctors from private, public and missionary hospitals in Cross Rivers State, yesterday, protested the kidnap of one of them, Dr. Emem Udoh.
Dr. Udoh who is a senor registrar in the Department of Pediatrics, University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, was abducted on Monday in Calabar.
The protesting doctors threatened to start a strike because six of their colleagues and relations had been kidnapped in the last few months.
The angry doctors protested on the major streets of Calabar to the Government House. They condemned the government’s approach to the kidnapped doctors in the state.
Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) Chairman, Dr. Effiong Mkpnam said all hospitals must remain closed until Dr. Udoh is freed.
One of the kidnapped doctors, Dr. Usang Ekanem, who works in Cross River College of Education Medical Centre in Akampa Local Government Area, had just been released on Sunday.
Reacting, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Ms Tina Agbor gave the assurance that the government was working to secure the release of the abducted doctor.
